Project abstracts

1) AUTOMATIC HAND WASH CUM DRYING SYSTEM

ABSTRACT:

An automatic hand drier is a type of drier which works automatically only when the pipe goes off, the drier starts working at the same position were the tap is closed. This type of automatic hand drier is a modified form of hand drier which is already present in the market ,in the name of driers, where the equipment would be placed separately from the pipe, after washing the hands the person should go and stand separately / or search for it.

These kind of problems are solved by having the (AHD) ,here the main difference is only after closing the tap , the drier which is placed above starts working and when the person moves from that particular place the drier puts off.

This is advantageous when compared to the former method, in the way that the drier starts working only if the pipe is closed. This plays a major role in water saving methodology.

Even the person’s who are not aware of the hand driers would come to know about these type of driers, because whenever the tap get’s closed the drier starts automatically. This method aids in drying the hands even if the tap is not used, which adds the function of the traditional hand driers.

2) LINE FOLLOWING ROBOT

This project was initiated to learn the working of an automatic guided vehicle (AGV) and it application in the manufacturing industries. The robot was constructed to trace a black line in a white background. It consisted of three components namely sensors, chassis and control system.

Light Detecting Resistors coupled with a pair of white light emitting diodes were used as the sensors used to trace the black line. The chassis was made up acrylic. The driving system chosen for the robot was a two wheel drive were the two wheels were coupled to the geared D.C motors which had a voltage rating of 12V and the output of the motor was 100 r.p.m..

A third wheel was used as a supporting wheel for the chassis. The robot controlled using a ULN2003A I.C. which was a bipolar junction transistor. The resistance of the light detecting resistor varies according to the light incident on the resistor.

Usually a bright surface reflects the light incident on it whereas the black surface absorbs the light incident on the surface. The change in resistance due to the change in black and white surfaces is used to control the robot. The input from the sensor is given to the I.C. to switch the motors accordingly. The main advantage of this system is that the control is purely based upon logic and input from the sensors and no microcontrollers are required to analyse the output of the sensors.

3) SELF LAVATORY SERVICE

The circuit of “self lavatory service” basically consists of microcontroller being connected to many relays for switching the motors and other inputs. The input consists of two touch sensors, one of which is used to sense if the person is seated on the toilet or not. The other one is used to sense the droppings.

Once the first sensor enables the first switch gets energized and the controller gets interrupted with a input to the port B (RB0) which is an external interrupt. The second sensor is connected to the port B (RB4-RB7) port B change interrupt.

4 MHz crystal is connected to the pin number 16 and 17 via capacitor 22pf capacity and is being grounded. The port b change interrupt is also connected to the port D in order to ease the controller programming.

Delays are created then and there in order to check whether the person has interrupted by dropping. If he has interrupted then signal will flow from the circuit to the port B change interrupt pin. On continuously interrupting for the particular time limit and if suppose there is no interruptions then port A gets enabled.

If there is interruption in between the loop then again loop starts from the first and will run. So finally according to the previous condition the port A gets enabled and motor connected to it will run.

Abstracts of the papers

1) ENERGY UTILIUZATION WITHOUT SOURCE

ABSTRACT:

This concept states that “energy can be used from the sources which are being switched in the on condition”. Using that energy and converting it into some other type of energy, of the required form, using it for other purposes.

There are some basic ideas, concepts which have been framed to absorb, convert and use certain type of energy which has been explained in the paper.

Usage of energies like

1 Light energy

2 Electrical energy

3 Rotational energy

4 Sound energy

5 Thermal energy

And other such energies are also being considered.

Various instruments, devices their applications in the specific field and their instrumentation with other appliances is explained.

The appliances like

1 Incandescent lamp

2 Fan

3 Wind mill

4 Refrigerator and many more home appliances are being used and energy from there is acquired.

The steps involved in the above process are

· Absorption of energy specifically

· Processed using certain devices

· converting it into required energy

After conversion, that energy is used for specific application according to our requirement in the required form.

When this concept comes into light then, unimaginable amount of current can be saved, and there will not be any demand for the same. Recycling of current by different methods according to this paper will be an upcoming research and is to be brought out practically.

2) ACCIDENT PREVENTION IN AUTOMOBILES BY

MECHATRONICS APPROACH

ABSTRACT:

This paper provides a new innovative idea on automatic actuation for accident prevention in roads. This is an idea which has all the streams in harmony, in particular the streams like mechanical, electrical, electronics, information technology. It is a concept which is different when compared to all the other previous techniques which has been brought into reality. This provides a insight of how the actuators, different sensors, processors, /controllers work and aid in the above purpose. The basic idea behind this new innovative concept is

“If the driver of the vehicle sleeps, it is detected with the help of a camera . Then these data are sent to the processor, processed and the signals are further sent to the actuator (i.e. steering unit) control. If necessary even the blue tooth technology which has been implemented in this concept also comes into assistance and aids in the prevention of accident”.

3) AUTOMATIC VEHICLE CHARGING WITHOUT EXTERNAL SOURCE

ABSTRACT:

Even thought the present world is running hard to run the vehicles with fuel (petrol, diesel), an alternate source of fuel was found out. They used some of the alternate fuels like

Ø Solar energy

Ø Battery charged vehicles

Ø Liquid hydrogen as fuel

Ø Gasoline/LPG

Ø Electric vehicles

But the common thing among all such alternate fuel is nothing but the source for refueling. So it is already known that each and every source as well as the alternate energy defined earlier has a high end refueling cost. For instance the cost of petrol, gasoline all cost 1 re per litre for a vehicle producing the mileage as the cost of the litre petrol.

So leaving all the basic source of fuel which are used now a days, if a consideration is made on the “battery charged vehicle” which is getting name and fame now a days, it will be highly effective. Battery charged vehicles are recently used because of its advantages like

Ø Fuel cost is low

Ø Good fuel efficiency

Ø Just recharging is needed

Ø Pollution free

Ø Anti Accident setup

Ø Noise free

Ø Easily accessible

Ø

Having it in mind a option with battery charged vehicle was made. So modifications in that by still improving some features may highly be effective and it will be brought into use. Some possible modifications that are possible with it are

Ø Increase in speed

Ø Reducing time taken for recharging

Ø Improving the cc of the engine

Ø Improving the BHP

But here we have taken “recharging as the major factor” and a modification in it is done. Here the concept behind our work is “automatic charging of vehicles without external source for battery based vehicles”.

4) PAPER ON IP SURVEILLANCE – WITH DIGITAL IMAGE

PROCESSING IMPLEMENTATION

ABSTRACT:

The increase in importance for high-profile security installations has transformed surveillance into a large data analysis and management channel .The conventional

arrangement consists of analog sensors , transmitting via bundled cables to central control

monitors which are highly manned. Such systems are also prone to false alarms that trigger the technicians to investigate a potential incident .Further the video cameras provide a large volume of data and thus it requires an expensive infrastructure with a large bandwidth to allow operators to view available data. The speed involved in the system is also slow .This paper proposes a new system of IP surveillance. FPGA based high speed wireless network that is digital cameras networked via standard Ethernet networks that is expected to be more sensitive with high resolution, precision optics and superior lighting.

It focuses on,

v Sensor based RADAR system - used to prioritize the target in accordance with their threat levels and correspondingly alert the technicians and then monitor the target threat with the help of identification sensor.

v Image reduction technique - a foveated electronic camera employing a spatial frequency spectrum analyzer and data reduction means utilizing movable spatial windows for converting low resolution to high resolution pictures.

v FPGA architecture – Field Programmable Gate Array is an architecture which is used for customized design exploits the inherent parallelism for miniaturization and speed effective solution for the user specified design.

v A configured selection system – allows the user to opt between any of the two methods of obtaining the monitored output as given below.

ü Only the threat with high resolution

ü All the captured videos where in the threat appears relatively intensified.

v PTZ – Pan Tilt Zoom camera can be employed for high resolution output in the street lamps itself (which is undetectable 725 x 480 pixels) for high intensity pictures .For normal video outputs, the pixel rate can be scaled down to

CIF (320 x 280).

5) CLUTCHLESS GEAR SYSTEM WITH DIP

& CONTROLLER APPLICATIONS

ABSTRACT:

In the olden days we had a problem of the auto gear system ,in which the gear change was directly automatic and (say) if suppose a car is going at a very high speed , then immediately if a car slows down or takes a turn then there may be a problem of sudden gear change and the sensor cannot respond immediately.

To overcome the problem of auto gear system we have implemented the DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING concept in MECHANICAL based CLUTCHLESS GEAR SYSTEM. Here the advantages of using this system is there may be

ü Increased efficiency

ü Efficient change of gear

ü Good life

ü User friendly model

ü Safety

ü Optable model

Ø As the gears can be changed according to our need without the usage of clutch , so we can increase the speed of the vehicle like the normal vehicle and can also be used by any new person who goes with the vehicle

Ø The sensor can be used for nearly 2 years or near with a back up for that sensor

Ø We have a DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING IMPLEMENTATION ,as if suppose a person other than the driver touches the gear , the sensor will not get engaged

Ø If both the image processor as well as the gear is changed ,only then it will get engaged ,such that there will be a useful response of the gear system as well as the clutch

Ø It will be safer in this case because we will have a back up ,if suppose there is the failure pf the sensor , then the auto gear model will get activated and hence this is a n optable model and will be efficient enough
